inherited an iwc square yellow gold watch, love the brand and want some more info on it. The back case shows numbers 1750405 and R1160ad , As well the crystal is scratched and jeweller said cannot polish this type of crystal, where can i get a replacement crystal
The r1160ad is the reference number of your watch, being Reference 1160 Automatic Date. A search of 1160 in the vintage catalog project using the IWC Vintage Reference Index at to bottom of the page shows the following from the 1966 catalogue
A case number search using DateYourIWC gives two ranges for your watch from 1960 - 1970 and from 1964 - 1966. 1966 seems a probable date. For CHF50 you can get an extract from the records. The order can be sent by email to customerservice@iwc.com. For an extract from the records, you need the case number together with the movement number (engraved on the movement itself, and PLEASE get a watch maker to open the case if you do not know how to do so). This will also give the date the watch left Schaffhausen and the distributor (not retailer) of the watch.
A new crystal may be able to be installed by the service centre in your country or it may need to go to Schaffhausen, I suggest using the above email address to see what they recommend and get some idea of price.

Hi,
Closeup pics of the dial, casing, movement would help, if u could share them here on this forum.
The case number and movement number will also assist greatly. For pocket watches, to see the movement number you would need to open up the back of the pocket watch, which a good watchmaker can do for you without harming the timepiece.
Erstwhile, these below can assist for vintage / older watches: http://www.moeb.ch/dyIWC/ --DateYourIWC by case and movement number (I prefer the applet version at the bottom), created by Marco Schönenberger
http://www.iwcforum.com/Vintage_Catalogs.html The Vintage Catalogs may contain your target vintage watch and provide details therein.
Instructions found here: http://www.iwc.com/en-us/service/faq on how you can also order an extract from IWC archives to verify authenticity.
Hope this helps.

Thanks all,,it is at the jewellers now,the gold basket weave braceletneeded resizing. From the above photos it looks like it is the 1160-ad, i will post some photos when i get a chance. Am so excited to wear this watch. Quick question,if I only plan to wear this watch occasionally, do i need to wind itevery day, and if so how many times? Or should i buy an automatic winder?

I looked at some pages in the vintage catalogs as suggested by Shing and found this:
