OK, I no longer have delusions of building an Ingenieur, but.....as it happens (and how this all started) is that I am being given a watch that looks almost exactly like the one pictured. I can't stomach the sight of this watch but would love to re-case it's beautiful 8541B movement and then wear it. In this instance I have no problem wearing a Franken-at least it's being worn!

If you did not like it, why did you accept it? Either learn to like it, or give/sell it to someone who will, and keep looking for that Ref 666 with a perfect black dial. Do not destroy it. I agree that the 60s and 70s fashion is not today's cup of tea, but it was groovy then, like long hair and bell bottoms. Some collectors will like it, and buy it just because of that. I wonder how people will look at the current oversize watches in 2050, many today think are "stunning."

I guess IWC liked oversized watches then too, but didn't know how to handle the issue. Jokes aside, this one is quite horrible to my eyes, but I agree with the others: don't touch it, the urge to destroy can be manifested in a more useful way elsewhere, like when rebuilding your house. Maybe a new adagium: enjoy or sell!
Kind regards, Paul

If you recase it, Schaffhausen will not service it, even if you sent proof that you still had the original case. That was found out by one of our forumers from Holland who recased and with new guilloche dial at bespoke quality. So keep it wear it or move it on. But since it's original and in vgc do not transform it into something more pleasing to your eye.

I think the oversized watches look foolish on undersized wrists. It's the reason those magnificent Portuguesers will never grace my puny 6.75" wrist.
So, is this possible?
Don't destroy an orignal and make it into an Frankenwatch.

Bas

There is nothing "wrong" with it. Subjectively, and in my opinion, it is FUGLY.
