As I already have the AT2000 "White Dial" and absolutely love it, I was considering getting the black dial version also. However, over the last year and a half,I have found myself growing ever so fond of the VC/AT. Something about the internal bezel and the two off-set crowns just makes it so unique looking. Vintage looking yes, but yet somewhat modern too.
I have searched the archives to learn as much as possible, but would like to ask those who own one your thoughts and of course any pic's would be appreciated. To those who do not have one in their collection, would you go for the VC/AT over the black dial 2000 or not? Please tell me why.

Hi Andy,
For me the answer would be Yes - the VC AT over the AT 2000.
All great designs to me, especially the Deep Two -- I don't have any ATs chiefly because I am looking for something with a good balance between size (not too big nor small), and features (not overly complicated, but not too simple either - unless it is vintage classic)
so following this: the Deep Two is a marvel, though a bit big for me. The Deep One, the Cousteau Calypso, and the Vintage Collection ATs are also very very appealing, though not quite enough to pull the trigger yet.
....but a black dial ref 812, or green 'shadow' ref 816.... well, my mind might change, LOL.

Andy - as a fairly new Deep Two owner I can only second Shing's statements. Even if I am a Portuguese man first and foremeost, I started out as a sports/dive watch lover - and to a certain extent that will never go away (hence the Deep Two).
As you already have the white face AT2000 I would not choose its black faced sibling, I would very much recommend the VC AT. The gold piece pictured by Shing above is stunning, but only if you are looking for a sporty dress-up watch. If you want to be able to wear the watch in less formal situations as well I think the black faced steel version would complement your white AT2000 perfectly!
If you are looking for a third alternative there is always the Deep Two ;-)

Hey Andy, I'd agree with Shing and Skule. I'd go for the VC AT. And since you were considering a black AT2000, I'd go for the VC AT in black - as a great next addition to your collection (or more bluntly, you're next fix for your addiction)! =P
As you saw it's certainly vintage but modern at the same time... which to me is what helps make a watch a timeless...
I'm not an owner but did try one on fairly recently... and liked it a lot:

Hi Andy, my considerations when I got my VC AT- 1. a robust watch for daily use that likes water as I do... 2. IWC in-house movement 3. simple aesthetics.. after 1 year with me- if have to decide again, we'll take the same watch... here are some impressions-

I have just bought myself a brand new AT3548-01 (new old stock) and I love it, I prefer it over the AT 2000. I did look the VC AT but what I don't like about it, is the larger size, it is 44mm versus 42mm on the 3548 and I only have small wrists and 44mm is just too big on me.

Andy,
I have had mine for over a year now and it has become my go to watch for travel. The rubber strap is great with the embossed pattern, the exhibition case back is great to look at when stuck on a plane, and the lume is awesome.
I am also a big fan of the internal rotating bezel and the offset crowns gives it a unique look. I have o problem wearing this one with a suit or casual and the accuracy is great. It's not overweight given the diameter and sits super comfy on the wrist.
I also had a black face AT2000 until recently but personally grew tired of the yellow, but that is obviously a personal choice. The watch was great but I did not need two AT's so the VC won out.
In short, it's a pretty unique watch and maintains plenty of interest for me after a year. No hesitation in recommending it.

Responders,
So far it looks overwhelmingly VC-AT vs. the black dial AT2000. And yes, I was thinking of the SS black dial version since I'm not really a gold guy.
@ Alan...Your "blue dial" collection is amazing and I have considered your AT suggestion. But for right now, a black dial is calling. The blue dial chrono will be the perfect choice for a 3rd AT. Hey Alan, aren't you part of that Vegas act..."Blue Man Crew"? I think so !! Where I'm located, our baseball team is the L.A. Dodgers aka Dodger Blue. I'll bet if the new owners of the team ( Magic Johnson is one of the investors )saw your Blue dial BP, they would adopt it as part of the offical team uniform !
The pic's from all are great and it appears the VC/AT lays down nicely on the wrist. The rubber embossed strap pairs well and I can vision that for a bit of a dressier look, a black croc would do the job.
Can someone verify that the type of buckle that comes OEM is a PIN buckle? I also heard that the VC collection is being phased out by years end. True?
