Even more interesting than the name on the dial is the engravement "Quality Extra". In fact these were watches built with standard machine produced parts, but given extra attention. The parts to assemble the watch were selected having the lowest tolerances and the regulation of the watch was done with extra effort by the "Regulator" or "Régleur". Due to this, the watches were more precise than the average movements and even so precise that they could withstand a demanding time accuracy test by one of the Astronomic Observatories, which carried out such tests in Neuchâtel, Geneva and Kew. These watches were awarded a chronometer certificate and of course this was reflected on the selling price. It is worthwhile to ask IWC for an Extract of the Archives, where IWC will confirm the special properties of your watch. Congratulations, Adrian, (alwaysiwc).
The dial is signed Ed. Barth Zurich and the movement is marked Qual Extra and JWC
