18K, case never polished and very sharp-looks much better in person. Never serviced. Biggest issue is the obviously ratty dial. I am concerned more with using this baby and less so about selling it. I thought I would purchase and re-sell but I am falling for it big time and wish to wear it..
I will be bringing it into NYC so they can ship to Schaffhausen. It seems wiser (though may take a bit longer because it gets routed through Texas) than shipping it straight to Schaffhausen myself. Or am I wrong?
Would any of you go for a re-dial? sacrilege? please lend opinions one and all..

Thanks Mike. That's exactly what I'd like to do but no one can tell me if Schaffhausen has a replacement dial. In that case I guess my original will get refinished...

As per Michael's comment, I would redial.
I had my MK XI redialed and asked to get the original dial and hands back and was flat out told no - they would be destroyed - main reason being the counterfeit market I am guessing but I was not happy with being told that the hands and dial that I own would not be returned to me - the watch still came back perfect and I am more than happy with it as I am sure you will be if you send it in for a restoration.
Cheers,
Ben

Todd, I would too...no doubt about it.
This is a very wearable and unique Inge - and certainly worthy of a visit to the workshops of the Wizards of Schaffhausen, where they will undoubtly do their magic and ultimately return this beauty back to you, looking as good as the day it originally left the factory way back in the last century.
May we ask that you take some more "as is today" macro shots - and share those with us in a before and after show, when you eventually get your Inge back. the wait I can assure you, will be well worth it.

Thank you all for such supportive and inspiring comments. I will definitely send it for the complete restoration.. question-how best to send it? should I bring it to the IWC boutique in NYC? send directly? what would you do?
Once again I want to tell you all how grateful I am for this help and support. best Todd

I would go to an AD or boutique. It is troublesome to ship it yourself and worth the extra $$ to have peace of mind and an avenue for communication.
