After more than three years, I finally made it!
First of all, I will explain the clues I left in my earlier posts:
Pretty IWC's Sometimes Appear.
This makes PISA, which was found by Shing.
'tour de force' obviously refers to the tower of Pisa
Perfection Is Simply Awesome reads Pisa again.
The other town in Italy at less than two hours by car from Pisa is obiously Portofino:
I hope you liked my little tease-puzzle and now we can move on to the more serious stuff.
My first physical contact with the Portuguese Perpetuals had already been in 2007 (thanks to my AD John) at a visit to Schaffhausen and from that moment on, my desire was for a PPC. I learned a lot about the watch and quickly knew that I prefer the double moon phase model. There were plenty of pictures on the IWC forum and I saved them all to my computer to admire them regularly. My preference was for a white gold model since I don't feel comfortable wearing yellow or red gold but there was no double moon phase white gold PPC in the current lineup.
Then, the night before the IWC Collectors Forum meeting in 2009, an amazing watch was shown to me by Michael G. (whom I haven't seen here on the forum for a long time (correct me if I am wrong)). I immediately fell in love, even though I just had the BP 5004-01 for less than two months.
At the end of November 2009, I had located a Pisa Portuguese Perpetual Calender (PPPC in short) but I didn't have the fundings and so it slipped by. Later, I saw a black dial PPC, the Zegg & Cerlati for sale for a very good price but it was gone in less than a day.
Years passed by and I kept looking now and then for the rare PPPC but I never saw one. Then, just over a week ago I went to pick up the Pilot's watch Spitfire UTC that I bought for my oldest son (in due time) and heard of a PPPC that was expected back from a full service at Schaffhausen. The watch had all the original papers and boxes but it wasn't in yet. Days passed by and I started pondering on what to do.
Thinking back to the first moment that I saw the PPC's, I knew that I should not let this one pass. To raise the funds, something had to go though and it makes more sense to sell watches that could be replaced more easily and that still demand a fair price. I bit the bullit and said goodbye to both my seven-day beauties.
I went to pick up the PPPC with a good friend and let him drive home, I was too excited to drive! I will now start enjoying my grail watch and I promise that I will show more pictures every now and then. This one is too beautiful to hide!

That is a very beautiful watch, Clemens, congratulations! Yes, this is at a different level, I am quite sure you will enjoy it no end. What a way to start a weekend...

Clemens,
At first I was concerned with your trade off, but seeing what you were able to acquire I have nothing but admiration and jealousy on my mind now. Congratulations. I look forward to seeing it in the metal sometime.

This is a great watch, and one that I would have sacrificed two great watches for.

Thank you very much Michael. I feel exactly the same, although it was the first time that I let go watches that meant a lot to me.
Kind regards,
Clemens
