Here's my two bob, For what it's worth,Happy Wife Happy life BUT in relation to your choice, The former lacks clutter and cliche however, it is abundant with simplistic elegance and it is this purity that makes it truly special. The latter is indeed a beautiful machine and what man doesn't appreciate fine engineering. You are indeed fortunate to have a choice between pure elegance and technical wizardry; there is no poor choice here. So, in deciding, choose the one that YOU love( it will speak to you)then, when you have made that choice use your persuasive skills to convince your wife of the merits of your decision AFTER that decision has been made;the challenge for you is to appear to be listening and conciliatory but to obtain the result you want!Remember, any man with a decent watch collection already has a good understanding wife so it should be easy!Like Shing ,I too love both!

I don't know about you but I tell the story of how the PPC takes into account leap years and the moonphase to very high degree of accuracy to someone who is new to mechanical watches. It works all the time...
The regulateur takes a little bit of time to get used to but I like watches with a moonphase and IMO, the PPC is the right watch with the moonphase because your moonphase cannot be off from your date.
Worst case scenario, buy the watch and apologize to your wife. I am sure she is happy to keep both (you and the watch).

Those are words of wisdom from a wise man! And simply put, the PPC is NEVER wrong - it is never the wrong watch in any collection and it is never wrong on time, date or moonphase!
I like both watches very much, and it's really a personal choice.
On "how to convince wife" that obviously also depends on the nature of a personal relationship. But my suggestion is that you should never play in the other person's field --that is, it makes little sense to debate criteria using the other person's standards. You can't win then. Instead, change the criteria. One possibility might be "this means a lot to me, and we can afford it" --that is, make it about what you think is important and not debate, say. the utility of a moonphase. It's about pleasing you. Another possibility it to say "let's even things out" and buy her something that she values, perhaps jewelry for her. Expensive but that's part of the deal. It's about pleasing her.

Thank you all for your comments and suggestions. I have now changed my mind for a 5023-07 but found out that it's predecessor, the 5023-18 is actually cheaper by more than 25% and the only difference is that the 5023-07 is 44.2mm in diameter or 2.2mm more than the 5023-18. Any comments

It is nice if your wife likes your watches. As starters, I assume that money is not a problem, and your wife knows and understands this. The point of this is that a discussion about need and such is thouroughly out of the window. Then equilibrium may be an issue, like I want something, you want something. That can be solved, I guess. Then, I am with Michael, in that my watch is for me, it means something to me: it is beautiful, special, intricate, fabulous, whatever it means to you. What happens in our relation is then quite nice: my wife starts to like it for me, thinks that I deserve it, becomes enthousiastic about it, for me. For her, it becomes about me, not about the watch. Of course it helps if the watch is not depressingly ugly to her, luckily we have about the same taste on watches for me (not for her, by the way). When looking at the watches you showed that is completely inconceivable to me that someone would call them ugly. The clean dial of the regulateur looks very tempting to me. Good luck!
Kind regards, Paul

My wife has finally given up. But handbag does not equal watch. LOL
