As a budding IWC enthusiast I have decided it is time to make my first purchase. After a lot of research and a visit to the new boutique in NYC, I have decided on 3 final options. Either a silver Portuguese Yacht Club, a black stainless steel Portuguese 7-day, or the new Top Gun Chronograph. 3 very different watches, all with in house movements and iconic IWC styling. While attempting to make this difficult decision, I am very curious as to what more experienced IWC enthusiasts chose as their first IWC. I really enjoy the forum and look forward to reading any responses.

This one. Classic, iconic, dressy, and still one of favorites. I took a great deal of time deciding. In the end, the Portugieser was the hands down winner for design simplicity, quality, and a long and important history within IWC.
Good luck with your decision. You have many great alternatives.

Year 2000 - I chose the iconoc Mark XV on this very "grains of rice" bracelet. Not my picture or wrist, but I didn't even have a camera then so I had to borrow this photo from RKNY!

This was my first IWC and still my 'go to' watch for many occasions.

Looking at the three options about which you posted, I would choose the Portuguese 7-Day. All are good considerations and I think you will be pleased regardless of your final selection.
Best regards, Jim

What you're looking at is a 1949 IWC Caliber 89 serial number: 1183598 in
stainless steel.
