then soon after the opening of the NYC Boutique, MF revealed that he had taken delivery of this magnificent watch.
Other discussions and posts followed. Including Jay Eire's announcement that he too had taken the plunge.
Last Saturday, I passed by my AD to have some work done on a vintage IWC, and whilst waiting one of his lovely sales assistants approached me (here already I start to get "under the influence" - somehow all those ladies are so nice and knowledgeable too!). Anyways, she informed me that the store manager/owner was in vacation, and that they had received an IWC that they did not know / could not place, and was wondering if maybe something this "special" had maybe been ordered by him, for me. (am I the local Mr. IWC as far as they are concerned? ..but, that another topic!).
She then produces this magnificent piece. Of course it normally would need to take a killer whale to have me remove my precious Ref. 816 AT vintage off my wrist on a Saturday morning downtown - but for this beauty, it was a no challenge. So off came the AT and on went the "special" piece - or should I rather say, on went the switch. I was now definitely UNDER THE INFLUENCE.
I was so exited, that less than 10 minutes later I walked out of the store with the box under my arm. Pure Classic safely inside.
I had not bought it, as they were not sure if it had been ordered for someone else or not, but I figured I was not going to take the chance that it would fly out the store before I has the chance to actually make an informed decision. After all, this is LE - 500 pieces, only 250 in white dial and meant to be Boutique release only!
And so it is, and was all weekend and all day Monday and Tuesday....I kept taking the PURE CLASSIC out the box and looking at it time and time again! 100% pure elegance (and yes Folk, I do still wear a suit most working days).
But now, the the time has come. My AD is back from vacation and asking what happened to the Pure Classic (it's not reserved for someone else). And I must quickly sober up, and come out from being under the influence of it's classic beauty.
So, for now it seems that because of my faithfulness to IWC legacy, that the thinking here is leaning towards rather a Jubilee Jones with a larger in-house movement in it. But, Oh this classic is so pure, so thin so handsome.....
And of course in a very affordable price range (compared to a Jubilee)

Mark - this is what we call a "Luxury Problem", or maybe a problem of luxuries - LoL!
As much as I like the simplicity of this slim and elegant Portuguese I must admit that given the choice I would go for the Jubilee. But (fortunately) the decision is not mine, it is yours - good luck my friend!
PS! The good news is that there is no wrong decision here, only right ones :-)
So yes, I am having to admit that ever seeing this post by our esteemed moderator, way back in January, I was intrigued.
Announcing a "secret"....

I really don't know what to say, I think your choice depends on what you already have and what's in your future plans.
Whatever your choice, it's going to be a success.
Keep us posted!
P.S. Your ref. 816 is a beauty and that's for sure :)
