I’m a new member here and joined because I believe an old watch I own might actually be a genuine IWC MK 11. I bought it for a very small fee in 1980 and after wearing it for several years, put it away in a drawer in favor of something more modern. The watch was quite tatty when I bought it all those years ago and has never been cleaned or serviced. I wonder if anyone here could advise whether this is a desirable model and if so,whether I should consider some sort of restoration before selling on. I’m not a collector and would be pleased if it went to a good home. Thanks, Stuart.

Welcome to the forum.
Well it is certainly not in the best condition. An authentic Mark XI is a well sought after IWC pilots watch. To be sure of authenticity the watch needs to be examined by experts in Schaffhausen. The crown doesn't look like any authentic crowns I am aware of though.

It is an authentic Mark 11, although the crown is not original. If you not not appreciate her, I am sure there will be plenty of collectors who will. This forum in strictly non-commercial, and you should not be surprised if your "soft sell" post be edited by our esteemed moderator, when the sun rises at his neck of the woods.
Agreed with the above, except no edits here. There simply need not be any solicitations here to buy, and I wish Stuart well in selling his watch though dealers, auction houses or other venues for private collectors.

Thanks to everyone for your comments. It seems appropriate to seek authentication, then to make the watch available to purists in its original, if rather grubby condition.
