Good evening all,
I just purchased my first IWC. I always admired the look of the Portuguese Perpetual Calendar, so I pulled the trigger on a PPC IWC 502306. It is a gorgeous watch in person and just love the Red gold look. I have two questions for all you watch lovers.
1) I plan to travel, and there is going to be a 12 hour time difference between countries. According to the instruction manual, including the red one I can advance the watch anytime. However I have to be careful not to go counterclockwise between 8pm and 2am. Is the safest time to set the watch counterclockwise at 6pm?
2) If I acquired a custom strap, will the AD change this out for me? I am not inquiring about cost but placing of a custom non IWC strap on my timepiece.
Thank you. I think its customary to upload a picture of the timepiece. Here is one taken from my phone

Hi, congrats on your PPC and welcome to the forum.
My understanding is that you are able to adjust back time / go counter-clockwise, up to a maximum of 18 hours i.e. from 8 pm to 2 am of that same day, which means you will still be in that same day. This will not cause you to breach the no-counterclockwise adjustment time period of the mechanism (8 pm to 2 am).
For a strap change, many collectors here do it themselves, or get it done for a small fee at the local watch-maker, or if their relationship with the Authorized Dealers or boutiques are good, get them changed there for free.

Thank you for your input Shing. I will try find myself a better spring-bar tool. I don't know if I could forgive the local watch store for scratching the lugs. I guess if I did it myself it might be better. Any suggestions on a good spring-bar tool?

Try the bergeron 6767F. Many refer to this as a good tool.

Adding to the Bergeron 6767F recommendation, well made Swiss spring-bar tool, balanced and easy to handle. New tips can be purchased/replaced in future if necessary.
One suggestion....cover lugs with tape to prevent scratching in case of a slip.

Wow, that's is my dream watch. Congratulations! I hope I will ever be able to post on this Forum that I have acquired the Portuguese PPC. Been saving for a long time now, and not even half way. Fortunately, my AD likes me and knows my biggest wish.... So , everytime I stop by..... He lets me wear it for a while. Just to keep me going I guess....

This is my first pricey watch and I'm still learning much about it.
I have been wearing it on and off the past few weeks. The last week, however, I started wearing it every day and I'm curious about the power reserve. It seems to last about a day and a half. Should I be expecting more?
I shouldn't have to wind it, right? I do it anyways but that doesn't seem to help the power reserve. I do shake my hand a lot and rotate my wrists (a habit my father has when wearing his watch -- he says it's to help keep the movement running).
Hi,
Just a thought.... If you wear it all the time, the power reserve doens't make a difference..... Haha! Wear it everyday, this watch deserves it! Enjoy it in good health and fortune. But the others are right. It probably needs service.

Keep the dream alive my friend. I think the thrill is always in the hunt. I have owned and own some brands that are considered "the best" in the world of horology but if it doesn't incite any passion it will not matter if it is the "best brand" or a "good/better investment".
This is my first IWC, and as stated I have always had an admiration for the PPC. Now that I have one, I am extremely pleased. This is one that will stay in my collection and not be traded. Good hunting!
