It didn't really do much for me when I saw it at SIHH. But, this week, I have looked at it closely on two occasions in Singapore and it is bugging me. It looks cheap and rather tacky. That appeals to me. It's a watch I could wear anywhere and it would not draw attention. Do I sell my 5002 and a couple of other watches and let this become my daily watch? Unlike other Big Pilots produced today, it has a nine (albeit a diminutive 9). The strap feels more comfortable than the leather straps I have for my 5002. This oversized Swatch watch keeps on bugging me. If I see one in Sydney, I don't know what I'll do.
Personally, I don't think I'd want to sell several watches to finance one that I thought looked "cheap and rather tacky." If that's the look you're after, why not go for authenticity and buy a watch that really is cheap and tacky? :) Or at least cheap.
I can't recall reading a dilemma quite like this one. Good luck figuring it out.

Strange situation, this is the exact model which drew me in, untill my wife smashed my dreams with stating what you are thinking ... this is a bit tacky for a 10k+ watch just my 2cents

While I find the look appealing, I find myself wondering how it would "age". Would it still be appealing in a couple of years? Personally, I doubt it.
Sell an icon like the 5002 for it? Not me! If you like the strap and find it more comfortable, get one (or a similar aftermarket strap in black) and put it on your 5002.
Just my own opinion. Others may differ. Only yours really counts.

both Miramars Big Pilot and Chrono never altogether leave my mind. The Miramar BP is easier to let go - it is too big for me @ 48mm. but the Chrono ....
I think they are very special because of the titanium interplay in some of the parts against ceramic, *and* how often does IWC make a 'military' look. the key thing giving me pause on the Miramar Chrono is the polished black case.
this I suppose was my desperate attempt to assuage my feverish 'military'-styled wrist-time desires :)

Ralph, I think that you will find the watch really grows on you. Each time I see it at the Boutique I like it more. Can't wait to see your wrist pictures after you bring it home. Hope you are enjoying your trip, that country is amazing.

While I understand the desire to wear something a little less flashy, I wouldn't suggest selling any of your watches... I would suggest waiting a bit to see if you still want it then. I'm sure you are familiar with that process ; ) Ya neva know. You may not have to sell anything at that point to get it.

By the way, you are supposed to be on holiday rather than being 10000 miles away from home and still on the forum!
