Hi all
I have a vintage Yacht Club with the 8541b movement that is in need of some attention. The autowind is sluggish and the height of the hands fluctuate as they move round the dial, causing hands to stick at certain points. I have been told that this is probably wear and tear and it might require a replacement centre wheel.
I'm hoping for some advice about who I should ask to do this work. I am based in the UK and, all things being equal, would prefer to find a local specialist with access to IWC spares. Sending it back to IWC is the other option but I'm guessing that this might be the most expensive (and slowest) option.
Does anyone have any idea who I should speak to and how much I should expect to pay for this work? Any thoughts very welcome.

I have a watch with the gilded version of the movement in my 1850. Mine was needing a service rather than any parts replaced. Richemont London service centre were able to handle this with no problem. If yours needs stripping cleaning and an oil job then chances are this can be handled in London. If parts are needed then it may go back to Switzerland especially if the case and or bracelet needs TLC. I have copied this to someone in London who may respond over the weekend. FYI the photo at the bottom of my post is my c8541b stripped down.

Hi Peter, Your 8541b is too old for a'local specialist'to have access to parts but the UK service center will be able to service your watch as long as the dial, hands or case are not in need of restoration. You need to bring your watch to an Authorised Dealer for them to forward it to IWC's workshops as,for security reasons,it is not possible to drop it off or send it directly to the center yourself. You should specify that you prefer a UK repair. Your watch should be repaired and returned to your AD within 5 weeks from the day you accept the estimate and proceed the repair. A complete service including polishing will cost about the same as a modern split-chrono such as IW371301. Please remember that this is only an online diagnosis but I hope it has helped. Leo

Just to clarify, cost to service your YC is the same approx as the split chrono to service, not the cost of the split chrono watch!! In case anyone was thinking that! There is a tel no for the UK service dept if you search Retail & Service just to give you an idea of expectant cost. Leo has advised as I hoped for you, so thank you Leo. It's more than good when a plan comes together.

Thanks so much Greg and Leo - your advice has been very useful. I think it deserves a trip to Switzerland. I will drop it into an AD before Christmas. I will post an update as soon as I have more news. Thanks again Pete
