Hi all,
I recently received what I'm told is a mid-70's vintage watch from an uncle. I've been trying hard to identify it without much certainty... Looks like a Yacht Club but the propoortions don't look the same around the lugs and I doubt it has the suspension system.
In any case, I love it but just wanted to know more about it. Serial number on back is: 2123365. I can send pictures also but don't know how to load onto this forum...

Hi, and welcome to the forum,
There are quite a number of pieces, including this one of mine, that fit that era and description:
To be able to make a proper determination, the case number and movement number will assist greatly.
This website, requiring case and movement number, will enable you to date them:
http://www.moeb.ch/dyIWC/ --DateYourIWC by case and movement number (I prefer the applet version at the bottom), created by Marco Schönenberger
Also, the Vintage Catalogs may contain your target vintage watch and provide details therein. http://www.iwcforum.com/Vintage_Catalogs.html

Does that give more light as to the watch's pedigree?
Appreciate your help...
Cheers,
Pictures of your watch will certainly help too.
----- Picture Uploading - A Snappy Guide To upload a pic to the forum, you will need to first upload the picture onto a hosting site. This can be space provided by your internet service provider (your account may already come with one with a limited size). Whatever the case, the pic has to reside on a permanently live server and cannot be on your harddrive.
Quick Step One: most people sign up for a free host at www.photobucket.com Quick Step Two: Upload your pic, preferably in 640x480 size Quick Step Three: Look for this box below and click on the URL beside IMG Code, and paste it directly in ‘Your Comment’ box when writing a new comment in the forum. Quick Step Four: check, check, check that you have successfully uploaded the pic (like I have done with the image directly above :) by using the preview button i.e. clicking on the ‘tick’, just above the ‘Your Comment’ box. And you’re done !

Thank you to all for your diligence! You are correct, Michael, that is my watch exactly! For a watch that is almost 40 yrs old, I can honestly say that it runs better than many of my newer automatics. Amazing...

You are right J-DUB
They are extremely good timekeepers the 8541 movement and robust. Here is a quick snap of my Ref 1828 to confirm what you have beyond doubt.
But be aware these 70's designs with this movement can start a kind of craziness - before long you will be yearning for a Yacht Club which apart from being very collectible like so many IWC's were from this era, it is also one of the best sellers for the company back in that day.
And some say it is a true crossover between a sports and dress watch - in the same way that the Datejust is to Rolex (except I think the YC is a better watch overall - just IMHO). So for some, it can be the one watch they need to cover all their needs.
Good luck in the meantime with your 1828 - it is a great start in classic IWC's and 8541 movements in particular.

Thank you so much for your prompt reply...
OK, so I took my watch in and opened it up. Here are the numbers:
Case #: 2123365 , 1828
Cal. #: C.8541B
Movm't #: 2074435
Does that give more light as to the watch's pedigree?
Appreciate your help...
Cheers,
1828 is most likely the reference number. I did not find much info online.
With the date your IWC applet http://www.moeb.ch/dyIWC/ I found:
The movement is a calibre 8541H, dating from the year 1971.
The case was most probably produced around 1975 and delivered up to 1977.

Bas
