I was a touch uncertain when I bought my 5001-14. My decision was between it and a Handwind Portuguese. Though my heart was with the Handwind, my head thought it might be a bit redundant with my Jubilee Portuguese and that the 5001 would be a better fit within my IWC family. Some unusual circumstances presented too good an opportunity to pass up, and the 5001-14 joined the club.
It quickly brought happiness to my wrist, and received a significant amount of wrist time. The size is just right, the Portuguese look is beyond compare, and it proved to be such an efficient winder that even during sedentary days the power reserve rarely dropped at all. There was just one problem...
I've never been a great fan of black straps, and whenever there is yellow or rose gold present, whether the case or just the markers and hands, I think a brown strap provides a much warmer look. After seeing so many great shots of Santoni straps on this Forum, I knew that was the answer.
I had originally planned to make a trip to NYC to visit the Boutique, hopefully see some friends, and choose a Santoni. First, family issues interfered. Then Sandy had something to say about East Coast visits. The holidays drew closer, and I was getting tired of waiting. Then I remembered Alexander Graham Bell's marvelous invention! In less than 24 hours the strap arrived at my door and less than 24 minutes later it was on my watch and wrist, both of which are happier than ever!
Now I have a new problem. My Jubilee and Portofino Moonphase are screaming for equal treatment!
Pictures are required, right? Here are three "before" with the original black strap and three "after". There's nothing like the warmth of brown with gold, and Santoni does it better than anyone!

Two Thumbs up on the Santoni change. Brings out the beauty of the RG markers and adds "POP" to the Red in the PR sub-dial. Finally, adds a richness to overall look.
Dick - it looks absolutely magnificent. Like a completely different watch. I bet the 5001 will now be hard to leave off of your wrist for long. Congratulations.

I know the agony you have endured. We missed seeing you in NYC, but at least you have solved your dilemma and have the Santoni on your wrist with more to come, I assume.

But did you attach the Santoni strap on the watch the other way around?
