BK60,
Unfortunately this combination will not work. The YC rubber straps are 22mm and the Mark XVII's 20mm. Adding to the size issue, the YC incorporates a "intregual" ( curved ) end on the case/lug side. Due to case shaping of the different models, generally the intregual end does not fit properly flush. I cannot think of any 20mm rubber straps from IWC as an option, but of course any after-market custom strap maker can fulfill your needs.
Not sure how the rubber strap would look with the MARK. However, a after-market soft nylon "Top Gun" look would be a great option. IWC does make a 21mm and it may be able to be squeezed on because it is a bit more pliable than a croc band, but I would consult with your AD/Boutique for assistance.
Should you create a new look for your XVII, please share the results.

Are you referring to the rubber strap for the Portuguese Yacht Club Chronographs ref 3902s ? If so, I think it is highly unlikely they will fit a Mark XVII, as the rubber straps are 'integrated' to the case of the Yacht Club Chrono, i.e. they curve at the lug end and go right up to the watch case.
In order to fit a MArk XVII, the (smaller) case size & curvature of the Mark XVII will need to be identical to the Portuguese Yacht Club Chronos, which they are not...

I would like to see what you come up with in the end. I have also considered a Mark with waterproof strap for work reasons. Will the nylon option be water-friendly?

There is always the stainless bracelet option which is waterproof - and looks damned good too! But let us know if you do find a rubber strap option as I am sure we are all keen to see.

I'm quite sure the nylon straps are leather on the inside - there for comfort of course but I'd still stay clear of water.

Bendy, I agree that the bracelet looks great .. in photos, but I feel that it does not complement the face well during wear.

Just to confirm, yes the nylon " Top Gun " straps are leather lined for comfort and to help control sweat moisture. Nylon (a synthetic) promotes heat unlike porus materials like leather (a skin) which allow natural breathing. Still, this strap was not designed for water in general but will handle occasional accidental water contact better than all leather straps.
IMO, if you aren't a bracelet guy or care for it's aesthetic look with the Mark XVII and "waterproof" is the goal, go for a custom made strap from a material designed for water activities. BTW, there are oil impregnated leathers on the market. A number of quality shoe manufacturers use these leathers for their boating shoes which not only deal with the water issue but also hold up to sea salt.
There are several 20mm rubber or waterproof straps by other companies, assuming you don't need the IWC branding. There are many independent strap sellers on the Net. Most of their products are inexpensive, allowing you to play with alternatives.
