You might find the unmarked crown is original on a gold example and marked variants are service replacments (opposed to the more traditional reverse scenario)

Very impressed with the watch Todd and nice again congratulations to you for the acquiring this watch and IWC for the fine spa treatment. Enjoy your watch.

Greg, The replacement is non-piepan. IWC was unable to come up with a replacement piepan nor did they wish to refinish the old piepan.

Catherine, Thanks for this post. You are probably (as usual) correct. It seems that the old dial (returned to me by Schaffhausen) has a tiny v shaped cut out in line with the date window at 3 O'Clock. Maybe the redial was done at a major servicing many years ago?
I am going to post (a few macro shots) about the old redial vs. the new replacement. To my eye the lettering is nicer in the old redial...And I will be very interested in your opinion. cheers Todd
They did a teriffic job ! Wear that puppy proudly...it's classic beautiful in every way. BTW, love the drilled/pierced lugs. Very vintage.

Andy
Enjoy and wear in good health.
