Ref 1150A, delivered probably in 1951, with the 178th cal. 85 made in 1950, the first year this caliber was produced. It may have been kept in a safe and used only for weddings and funerals.

Judging by photos of people I am not as round as some, but more round than others! Suprised by Antonios watch. It's not steel, it's not round faced and dialled and it has zero connection to military service. Unless it belonged to some famous military person! I am not a lover of square dials but that's not to say I can't appreciate them.

Hi Shing, This Ref 1150 A from 1951 is one of the earliest, and is powered by the 178th cal 85 manufactured in 1950. It is affectionately called "Cioccolata" by some collectors for obvious reasons. Others say that it was IWC's attempt "to square the circle." :) I am unsure of how the antimagnetic property claimed in the advert is achieved, but I suspect the escapement be made of materials less susceptible of being permamently magnetized. There is definitely no Faraday cage. ;)

Hi Greg. It may come as a surprise to you, but I actually have a sensitive side. :-) It is small, but it is there. I am not all steel and ordnance. :-) Now seriously, I actually disliked military life and only put up with it, for about 5 years, for the thrill of flying high performance aircraft, and as a way to accumulate experience fast to join an airline.

What you do may not be so important, but it is very important that you do it well. (my variation of a saying by Gandhi)

And also, where was it first sold and exactly when?
No doubts about it, it's certainly a beauty?
Best regards

Personally, I have always liked non-round watches, and that one is a beauty. Quite a find! I hope we'll get to see more of it here on The Forum.
