Dear Collectors,
I do not have any specific reason to post below pictures, other than lovesickness. Since weeks I am taxing my brain and my soul, thinking whether I really should do this significant step. It is actually since I met Bill in Düsseldorf, and for the first time, I saw a BP 5002 in real life.
I really liked that beauty, looks strong and more "pilot watch" than my BP 5004. On the other hand I also love my beauty, and much more, it was the first IWC I acquired. So, actually it is my first love.
Can and should I swap my first love with a BP 5002? Would that be fair? On the other hand, haven't nearly all of us taken at a certain point in time of our life the decision to say goodbye to our first love?
Owning both of them, really does not make sense for me. So I think I need to take a decision. Sticking to my first love, or moving on to a new love? What should I do? What would you do?

to me they are two very different watches. I have the ref 5002, and if I were to get a ref 5004 (or maybe one of the special edition variations), I would consider them as two very different watches: the 'first' big pilot, and its modern update.
here's mine with Felix's 5004 in the background...

I think you will happier with the 5002, IMHO. I saw the love in your eyes. There is something very powerful in the 9. Go for it my friend. You will have no regrets.

Hello Giovanni,
You know I sold my BP 500401 and Port Auto 500107 to help fund the Pisa Portuguese Perpetual. Sometimes when seeing posts of BP's I miss mine and even think about someday adding one to the collection. Recently, I have a preference for the 5002 so I completely understand your feeling. In your case it's even a bit harder since the 5004 was your very first IWC.
Whatever you decide, both BP's are great. Listen to your heart to make the right decision.

Maybe there is no point in having them both. But maybe there is also no hurry to sell the one to buy the other. So you could buy the 5002 and keep the 5004 for a while and see what happens. As you both have them then, they get an equal chance. They don't have now, as you are longing for the one you don't have.
And here my idea if having both at the same time is no option. If you really, really wanted the 5002, you wouldn't have to ask, you would have bought it already. You asked, so I would suggest you wait for a while: that feeling of wanting it might go away. That happened to me on several occasions, and the waiting game saved me quite a bit of money. In the end my rule is: if you do not really, really want it, don't do it. You will find out that you still will own quite some watches, and those you have then are those you really, really wanted.
Kind regards, Paul
What you do may not be so important, but it is very important that you do it well. (my variation of a saying by Gandhi)

In my opinion, 5004 is more dressy. 5002 is original, one of the key milestone of IWC.

Felix
