It's a marvelous Aquatimer, ref. 812 (1812).
Here's the picture from the official catalogue.
We can't discuss prices here, with small exceptions for vintage pieces.
Your watch, terrific watch, looks good, coeval and well kept, it might need a service to restore it to its best (just my opinion).
Its value fluctuates within the range of the 8K euros, although I've seen some costing less but also much more.
It's a relatively rare bird and it's worth to keep and preserve in the long, very long run.
It comes from a golden period for IWC, its movement, its design, anything speaks of IWC engineering.
Hope this helps :)
Hi Roberto -
Thanks very much for your reply.
It's a bit more valuable than I thought!
It probably does need a service. I had it done three years ago, but I do wear it regularly so it probably needs looking at again.
I will always look after it, but it will be a practical luxury. I'm a bit simplistic with this sort of thing - I love it so I wear it. Watches should be worn, cars should be driven etc etc.
One day one of my sons will get it when I'm too old to enjoy it.
Thanks again - your comments are very much appreciated.

You're welcome and thanks for posting, it's always a pleasure for the eyes to see such a beauty.
Good to know you're willing to keep it. I suggest you to service it, it's definitely worth.
Then, it's going to serve you for many years to come, its calibre is one of the most reliable ever produced, not just by IWC, a movement that made watchmaking history.
Just keep it off the water, I wouldn't ever dare to jeopardize its dial, it's unique and almost irreplaceable.

Roberto's advise is spot on!
Besides the collectors value, it's a great watch - and your attitude to "just do it - watches are made to be worn" is appreciate here.
Indeed, Roberto's reference to a great Calibre that ticks away in that watch - well placed. Our moderator wrote a great article exhalting the virtues of the calibre. You can read it here: IWC Calibre 85 Family

Hello Buffoon,
Personally I think you're doing an excellent entrance at the Forum!
The ref 812 is one of my future must-to-have models. I fully agree with Roberto, also in my opinion the cal 8541 era represent a golden period for IWC. I'm a proud owner of a blue ref 866 Ingenieur which I give a lot of wrist time.

Definitely worth sending back to IWC for a full makeover. You will be delighted with the result. They do a fantastic job. You must also request a stammbuchauszug( a verification of authenticity / record from the ledgers). But be prepared for a hefty bill and a lengthy wait .....that said, its really well worth it and a watch such as yours deserves it.
A great watch from a special period in the history of IWC

Another little advice. If you decided to send the watch to Schaffausen, ask for not replacing anything, especially dials, hands and crowns (whose replacement is, if not routinary, rather frequent).
Collectors have different point of view to watchmakers, the first ask for a 100% original/coeval watch, the second, for a watch to look/perform its best, no matter the coevality of the parts.
I inherited a beautiful IWC watch a few years ago, which I love and wear regularly.
I do need to insure it though - my insurer says I need to specify it and its value on the policy we have.
So, could someone help me?
It's an Aquatimer with the original IWC clasped strap. Could someone tell me the model number and an apporoximate value for insurance purposes?
Thanking you in advance.
