Do post pics of your watch as that will assist in identification.
Also, do check Michael's site as it will likely be in one of the catalogs:

here u go.
Picture Uploading - A Snappy Guide To upload a pic to the forum, you will need to first upload the picture onto a hosting site. This can be space provided by your internet service provider (your account may already come with one with a limited size). Whatever the case, the pic has to reside on a permanently live server and cannot be on your harddrive.
Quick Step One: most people sign up for a free host at www.photobucket.com Quick Step Two: Upload your pic, preferably in 640x480 size Quick Step Three: Look for this box below and click on the URL beside IMG Code, and paste it directly in ‘Your Comment’ box when writing a new comment in the forum. Quick Step Four: check, check, check that you have successfully uploaded the pic (like I have done with the image directly above :) by using the preview button i.e. clicking on the ‘tick’, just above the ‘Your Comment’ box. And you’re done !

these may assist too:
--------------
Closeup pics of the dial, casing, movement would help, if u could share them here on this forum.
The case number and movement number will also assist greatly. For pocket watches, to see the movement number you would need to open up the back of the pocket watch, which a good watchmaker can do for you without harming the timepiece.
Erstwhile, these below can assist for vintage / older watches: http://www.moeb.ch/dyIWC/ --DateYourIWC by case and movement number (I prefer the applet version at the bottom), created by Marco Schönenberger
http://www.iwcforum.com/Vintage_Catalogs.html The Vintage Catalogs may contain your target vintage watch and provide details therein.

Kingo, is the watch in your possession ?
if so, do post pics. without pics we won't be able to confirm the exact reference - which u should be able to do if u go through the vintage catalogs thoroughly.

I have recently purchased a vintage IWC cal. 89 14K gold case watch similar to this one:
http://www.chrono24.dk/iwc/iwc-schaffshausen-cal89---14k--id1604778.htm?query=iwc+89&suchen=S%C3%B8g&dosearch=true&searchexplain=1&resultview=list&dosearch=true&urlSubpath=/search/index.htm
The difference is that my watch is 35 mm case without crown (case № 1645XXX, manufactured in ca. 1964).
Can anybody help me to establish the reference number of my watch?
Thanks in advance

Have checked up in the catalogue (1966) but could not find it.
My watch is exactly the same design as in the link to Chrono24 in my first post,
but 35 mm without the crown.
Could never be able to upload a picture here - is it possible to send it by email?
Thanks.

"The movement is a calibre 89, dating from the year 1961.
The case was most probably produced around 1964 and delivered up to 1964".
The case is stamped 14K gold.
