I don't buy many pocket watches any more, since my collection is mostly complete, at least by my amateur standards, and also I try to buy only very old and rare models. But this one crossed my desk and I thought "why not?".
Watches like this have been covered on the forum previously. The dial is most interesting since it's not an IWC one:
And the movement is an ordinary and common IWC Calibre 52:
But the case --which has the Probus Scafusia stamp inside-- has one side that to me is special:
I checked, and this watch was sold January 21 1919 to (Ulysse) Nardin in Le Locle. Apparently they had a U.S. government order too large for them to fill themselves, and I've heard that IWC sold 2,000 watches to Nardin. You can also find these Corps of Engineers watches with movements and cases by others.

Michael, Congratulations, it's a great looking piece. I didn't know that IWC and UN had a relationship. Collected UNs before I moved up to IWC. Thanks you posting.

The dial may not be IWC, but it's very cool. I can see why you said "Why Not?"
Funny...those are the same exact words I use everytime I add another.
Enjoy the new addition,
Andy
