The link below shows a black dial which looks exactly like the "white dial" I've read about and whose provenance appears to be questionable at best. (thanks MF, for that great article)
Is this dial also of questionable provenance? And what if it were made of soft iron?
I hope you appreciate that not all questions, particularly technical ones or historical ones, can be answered in the same day. Especially at this time of year.
That said, I don't know the answer. I was told by two "expert" dealers that they were original 1948 dials but now, with the advantage of hindsight, think they may be non-IWC retrofitted dials. The problem of course is that documentation is scarce, and eyewitnesses virtually non-existent.

Hi Michael, Thanks. And sorry for the childish impatience. For a moment I had forgotten that not everyone checks the site maniacally every 17 minutes... best Todd

Hi TMW57,
The black Mark 11 dial, similar in design to the white dial, is as fake as the white dial, IMHO. They are both made of brass. If you find one made of soft iron, please let us all know immediately. I do not understand your last point though. What's wrong with checking the forum every 17 minutes? :-)

They exited the 14mu station in the N/n/West of England..specifically chosen by the British mod (bizarrely enough so did the yellow Seikos....later date). Note sure how long it takes to get a comprehensive book together but the dial type is illustrated in a book from '83.
It does appear the type of dial is rather embarrassing for folk shouting the white variant was made by a surplus dealer wishing to offer variation in his inventory, perhaps he had thoughts to also produce a black twin in order to perfectly mirror the mod shenanigans (yo ho ho).

Are they considered to be the same in terms of provenance?
