Hi,
I am new to the forums, and I am trying to find out some information on the pocket watch my grandfather left me. Looking over the piece I've identified the serial number to be #847621. Can anyone help me learn more about the timepiece?

Hi, welcome to the forum.
Closeup pics of the dial, casing, movement would help, if u could share them here on this forum.
The case number and movement number will also assist greatly. For pocket watches, to see the movement number you would need to open up the back of the pocket watch, which a good watchmaker can do for you without harming the timepiece.
Erstwhile, these below can assist for vintage / older watches: http://www.moeb.ch/dyIWC/ --DateYourIWC by case and movement number (I prefer the applet version at the bottom), created by Marco Schönenberger
Visit our moderator Michael Friedberg's http://www.iwcpocketwatch.com excellent website on pocket watches, and compare both the dial and the movement designs. Many pocket watches have similar dials, so you may wish to look more for similarities in movement design.

You have a calibre 52 watch for which the movement was produced in 1925. You can learn a bit more by searching this forum's archives and also at http://www.iwcpocketwatch.com/cal_iwc_52.html

The DateYourIWC utility shows:
The movement is a LÈp. calibre 52, dating from the year 1925. The case was most probably produced resp. delivered around 1926.
Your dial is also probably original, and looks to be in good shape (and very nice with the 24 hour markers).
The watch is not particularly scarce - but it's a nice family heirloom, and with a service by a good competant watchmaker, should give another 88+ years of reliable service.
