For me, unequivocally the ref 3786, for these reasons:
ref 3786 is -- harder to find, holds value better -- ceramic, ceramic, ceramic -- there is only one other 44mm ceramic in the entire IWC repertoire. the rest are 46mm and 48mm.
I am still hunting for a well-priced ref 3786. The DFB quest ended with the ref 5004-32.
with three IWCs in two months, u really got something going. but then again, it is partly you who brought me to the brand :)
greetings from the Maldives on Christmas Day - Merry Xmas every one !

Mel, besides the 3786 you can also consider the Carlson double chrono. It's blue dial is very attractive and it's very rare as well. If your wrist can take a 46mm, go for it!

Difficult to choose between the two. Here is a picture of the DFB along with spitfire double chrono ( Ref : 371802 - my fav )which you can also consider. The picture was taken during my visit to IWC flagship BTQ in Hong Kong.

I guess what you are missing is that you live in watch Mecca and have access to inventory that is not available elsewhere. I stand corrected. I had no idea that the DFB Doppel was readily available. When I purchased mine it was rarely seen. I now suspect that IWC released unsold inventory after the success of the DFB BP.

I think you may be right Alan - I seen two examples in the last weeks in Zürich and Basel.
2. DFB (3718)
which would it be and why?
Merry Christmas!
