I'm new to both this forum and the world of mechanical watches in general so apologies if this is an obvious question... but I came across this picture and fell in love with this watch. Since I have become fascinated with the history of IWC and their pieces but haven't come across any instances of what I am presuming is a Portofino Chronograph with a black case. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Maybe it's my imagination and it's a simple stainless steel case reflecting a black background???
Thank you Raspberryberet for asking the question, I too have seen that image floating around on the internet, most recently on tumblr and was wondering if it was either a special edition, or a modded case... it's unfortunate that it's a fake, as that antique-tinged yellow on the hands and indices is particularly nice against that black case, at least from the angle of the watch.
Thanks everyone for answering the question, that I have also been wondering about recently.

Indeed, unfortunately. That is, would it have been a genuine Portofino Chrono, it would have been quite attractive. The blackened case looks very nice on this particular model, and it goes very well with the light brown croc strap: a tasteful fake.
Kind regards, Paul

Adding to Paul's comment...the color scheme hints of MiraMar. Actually, this variation added to the existing Portofino Chrono's would offer a next level of "sportiness" option to the family. I'm with you Paul on the "honey-tan" strap. It really makes the watch pop and blends the markers nicely. The strap color reminds me of the one used on the Spitfire Mark XVI. A 'Black' Milanese bracelet would also complement this look
I would seriously consider something like this as long as it was coming out of a genuine IWC box with all the offical paperwork and served with a glass of Champagne at the Boutique/AD.

Wow, thank you all for your replies, you guys really know your stuff. It's disappointing to hear it's a fake but at least the mystery is solved, this has been driving me crazy for days.
