No way I give up on this. Merely disappointed so far.
I agree. It seems many AD's can get a "special edition" made if they commit to a minimum number (I've heard 50, but I don't know for sure). Many of the thoughts we've discussed are basically that - existing model with a custom dial. Yes, engraving names on reverse is a significant additional issue. But I bet a properly chosen model would sell more than 50 very quickly.
I'll give up when IWC's official answer is "no". We're big boys and girls. We understand "no". But unless and until that answer does come, hope springs eternal in this breast.
--in November I met for about an hour with several key executives, plus Product Mansgement, on a revised CF3 proposal.
--part of the initial problem was that earlier proposals weren't approved, which required going back to the drawing board. There also have been some other "process" issues, but none of which has killed the idea of a CF3
--absolutely none of this relates to current management or current strategy
--for people looking for just another special edition, even a nice one, there are of course many to choose from. For people who value a watch representing this forum, then the choice is limited (and the value set might differ),
--by the way, it's not true any dealer can plunk down the cash and order a special edition of 50. The editions are much more controlled and allocated, and involve totally different goals than selling 50 more watches.

Do you have information to support your "thoughts" ? If so please delineate them here.

I am simply observing and listening. You and I have been around here since many many years, and we all know what happened with the CFW 2. When I met Georges at the SIHH three years ago, he said that of course the selection of the DaVinci for the CF2 was a mistake and of course it would not be a problem having a CFW 3, as long as it is based on an existing model. He concluded that we collectors should come up with a proposal for such a watch. And there were two proposals, one based on the Portuguese with the Piaget calibre and one based on a Big Pilots watch.
For the relaunch of the website and the forum, the moderator of the IWC Forum (german language) told us that they were thinking and very positive about a third CFW for the relaunch of the website and the new forum. We all know what happened afterwards to the forum and therewith also to the idea. The needle returns to the start of the song and we all sing along like before.
Producing limited editions with color variations can't be that difficult, looking at all the limited editions already existing. The only difference for a CFW is that the watch won't be sold when they start the production, as with the dealer editions. This makes it slightly less interesting for IWC to produce it.
But as stated at the beginning, I am only observing and listening, and my conclusions might be proven wrong. For those who want such a watch and can afford it, I even hope so.

David, sorry to say but you're pitching a broken record whose, using your helpful imagery here, 'needle returns to the start of the song and we all sing along like before.'
a few of us would also be able to quote private, even public, exchanges with IWC officials that are far more recent to substantiate our case -- but guess what, we don't.
this thread was started by a long-time forummer who like many others including myself, hope for a CF3, including maybe even a Big Pilot CF3 (which is very high on my wish-list). note that we didn't jump in using bits here and there to say 'oh yes it can and will be made'. I believe it will, and I will not comment further.
I am not against 'intellectual discourse of honest observations and opinions' here - because I see no intellectual discourse whatsoever. I only see a lack of courtesy.
Things are not so bad really - look here today, how many railed against this forum came back? including many of whom I know lurk at this site multiple times a day. This is the one true testament of what this forum is - that it is inherently good, and there are many many good things to be done and enjoyed here. There is much positive here to enjoy. There is no need to imagine and reinforce negativity. Just my opinion.
