A year ago, the only watch I wore was a Tissot T-Touch used primarily for hiking. As my 50th birthday approached, I began thinking about indulging a long-suppressed desire for a proper watch. That desire had been increasing since our arrival in Switzerland, a place where watch shops are only slightly less common here than bakeries.
No need to go into too much detail but 2012 saw several of those proper watches make their way to me. Just as importantly, I discovered this forum and have had great fun learning about IWC watches and making friends. This is my 500th post, and while 500 posts isn't a milestone on the scale recently celebrated by some, I thought it appropriate to mark the occasion by announcing an incoming about which I'm very excited. However, following the examples of my elders (in time on the forum, at least) I'm not going to simply announce the identity of the new watch but will instead give a couple of hints.
First, I will acquire the watch during SIHH. Second, it is, in my opinion, a perfect weekend/sporty watch. Finally, it isn't one of these, unfortunately:
Not much to go on but I have confidence that someone will guess it.
A big thanks to all of those here who have made this such a wonderful place to spend time. It's been great getting to know you in the virtual world and I look forward to meeting many of you in the physical world in 2013.

Well done David. It's a great pleasure to read your posts and experience your wonderful photographs. It was also one of the marvelous coincidences of this forum to learn that you are a graduate of the same University as Alan and me.

Hi David
Since May 2012 you have chalked up a great deal of credibility here and many of us look forward to meeting you in your "home town" after 16 good nights sleep and one restless night ;-)
If I recall you also won a "Guess Who" prize in the WATCH International magazine as well last year.
You are clearly a man of great taste and already have a Portuguese Automatic. Therefore my guesses are 1- 2012 Spitfire chrono (steel with ardoise dial) - your 2012 favourite or 2- Portuguese Yacht club chrono
So knowing my luck you have gone Aquatimer (Vintage collection) or Chrono like Jéronimo.
I look forward to the "revealing" in due course - and now I understand the reason for the last night being a restless one ;-)

Greetings David,
As many already have expressed, your contributions, sensational pic's and narrative wit have raised the "quality bar" of the Forum. I know I personally appreciate your insight on many subject matters and the ability to hone in on minute details that might otherwise go unnoticed.
Your couple week tease will be torture, but in this case "I'm into pain" !
As far as the hints go, I'll rule out the VC-AT that was suggested since we both went through that "not so patiently waiting" game for what seemed like eternity. Thankfully we were finally rewarded with our deposit ordered AT's.
So I'll reserve guessing at this piont until more hints are revealed. Whatever it is, I know it will be stunning and probably a Black dial since I know you favor those.

It's always an exciting moment, collecting a watch, certainly if you are waiting for it some time. Enjoy it, my guess is the Spitfire Chrono too, but almost only because I think it is a great watch to have.
Kind regards, Paul
What you do may not be so important, but it is very important that you do it well. (my variation of a saying by Gandhi)
