What better way to start the new year than with a new IWC watch. Ever since I saw the Portuguese hand-wound for the first time in the flesh in Vienna a few months ago I was captured by the simple beauty of this watch. Some designs are, to quote an old shareholder of the brand and colleague C.G. Jung, archetypical. I guess this surely counts for the design of the 5454. I have always admired the Portuguese Jubilee and this watch comes as near as can be but in a more modern and contemporary way. A great watch with a great and historical movement and a stunningly simple dial. Nice details like the red 60 and the arched-edge front glass make is complete. I love it all the way and I hope the pictures can show you why…..

I personally am a strong fan of simple and classic watch design. To use cliches, form follows function and less is more. It was that aspect that first attracted me 20 years ago to IWC's pilots watches, and then to its Portuguese line.
I think you've chosen a great watch. Archetypical indeed. My compliments and congratulations.
