personally i think rivets are a very important detail
i think it's integral to the entire rugged look, and helps 'connect'/balance the strap to the large dials (particularly in BPs).
for a 3789 though - i'd probably lean towards not having it but would have some contrast stitching in a rectangular pattern - otherwise the jump between the leather strap to the watch is too jarring (and needs a connector of some sort).

Rivets are basic part of BP DNA. For white stichting on brown calf and brown alligator strap have a look at these UTCs. Both straps are IWC and with folding clasps.

looking at getting an after market alligator BP style strap for my 3789.
Would it suit better to get a strap with rivets or without?
Im kinda siding with rivets but love to hear opinions
