I purchased a Pilot 3777 and really love it. I have been considering a second IWC and here are my choices--- part based on budget. My other watch is a breitling Airwolf Raven. I like accuracy and having the chrono albeit how often do i really need to use it... I do use mine on the Pilot but many times for nothing really critical. Timing my drive to work during different traffic times....
1) Portofino Hand wound--- I like the idea of owning a manual watch. I like the fact that it is relatively thin in terms of case size. I tried one on at the LV Boutique and it felt good even though I have a relatively thin wrist. I like the glass back and the power reserve indicator.
2) Portuguese Chrono.. Like having the Chrono and love the dial on this watch
3) Portuguese 5001 --- On the list but now getting back to thick case and a stretch of my current budget.
One of the major issues for me is the accuracy of the movement. The Portofino hand wound has a newer movement and I have read so many mixed opinions about the accuracy of this movement.
Anyway would like to get some comments from others.

I would recommend the Portofino 8 Days Handwound. You see mine, I love about everything about this watch: not too thick, very classy in a business environment, good and quite accurate in-house movement with no problems, relatively big date at the side of the dial due to a relatively big movement, power reserve indicator that is much more practical than a chronograph, Santoni strap that is very, very beautiful.
The Portofino also complements your Pilot's Chrono: the former a bit more dressy, the latter a bit more sporty with a chronograph. Although ridiculous to mention here, with these two watches you don't need another one. Good luck!
Kind regards, Paul

Paul The Portofino sure does look nice... :)
I guess some folks probably think I am nuts for specific watch spread. I am not so much as a collector as wanting functionality. I think it would be nice owning a manual, automatic and quartz.

I love the 5001. Bought mine in 2006. I realize that there is a trend in some circles towards thinner watches but it is still an absolute classic.....quintessential dress watch but can still be worn with Jeans and a T-shirt.

Hi Mark,
Another vote for the Portofino 8-days and with all the good reasons as Sunflower has stated. IMO it is one of the most beautiful current production of IWC. Furthermore it is the first model to use a new movement. My watch is approximately +6.5 sec per day and its very consistent (+6.0 when I'm not wearing it).
Occasionally I do wear my wife's watch, the Portuguese Chrono and I must say it is a very well proportioned size watch and the dail is just gorgeous. It's a very versatile watch for almost any occasion.
I have a similar wish list as you have listed here and hope to one day own a 5001 or a 3878.
Though I think you can't go wrong with any of the choices you have there but having 5001 or even a 5101 can serve as your dress watch as you already have a rather sporty 3777.

I have to say I love the 3878. In some ways I wish I would have purchased one of these. I almost was thinking of getting one of those as a second IWC. However, it is really close to the 3777. Does anyone own the 3878 and 3777?
In terms of having a dress up watch--- I really do not dress up too often lol. I am the casual type. Do any wear the Portofino manual casually? I have not read too much about the accuracy of the new movement or if there have been some problems with it.

Hi Mark,
I don't have the Portofino 8-days, so I haven't tested it with casual attire but in my opinion it would go well with a smart-casual look. Maybe not shorts and a t-shirt, but a pair of weekend khakis or jeans with that watch would work.
I wear a portofino automatic most days it goes well with almost any attire.

Greetings Mark,
From your initial description of watch desires, my vote would be ( from a value perspective ) the Portugeuse 3714 Chrono. My thoughts are that with it's time-proven robust movement, it will deliver the accuracy you are looking for. While the tendency may be moving toward thinnest over time, IMHO too thin evokes a dressier watch. However, the 3714 @ 12.3mm thickness I think is a perfect balance for a dress or sport look and to top it off, it's a Chrono with classy "Hammerhead" pushers. I can understand why you love the dial as it is IMO a design that will stand the test of time....it's iconic.
As for the distant picture, my feelings are that the 40.9 mm diameter (although it wears bigger) will become more the standard in watch sizing, so the 3714 should be in vogue for many years to come.
