I was wondering if I could get some more info on this timepiece I picked up. Serial #1093867 Case Serial # 1115795
What I know: 1940s, 17 Jewel Caliber 83 (Not entirely sure on this one)
The leather strap is in poor shape due to age (original strap). Is there an IWC replacement I could get for this watch? I would like to get something so I can wear it.
Apologize for the poor picture quality. The object on the face is a piece of thread.
You can get an IWC replacement strap, but there are few that will look like this original one (keep in mind that IWC does not make straps). Also, if you want IWC can refurbish the watch to like new condition, if you wish. But for the thread and strap, the watch looks in pretty good shape.

The Strap is in fairly poor shape, the leather is deteriorating (flaking off/brittle). Any recommendations on a good strap? Is there any information out there on what movement this is? How would I go about getting it refurbed?

First, take it to a watchmaker and get it serviced. Just because it runs doesn't mean it will run well. If it hasn't been touched in a while, then there's a lot of dust in there, and the oils that lubricate the movement are long dried out. Right now the strap is the least of your worries, and a watchmaker will be able to help you there in any case.
It does appear to be a nice piece, and certainly deserving of daily wear again.

I should have added this earlier. The watch was serviced about 4 months ago locally where I live, the main spring was replaced, watch was cleaned/tuned, etc. Just wondering if it would be worth it to send to IWC and have them go through the watch completely and refurb it. It runs perfectly now but due to its age I was thinking about sending it to IWC.

They serviced the watch, yet didn't remove the thread from the dial? Or is it outside the watch?
Sending it to Schaffhausen now would be a personal choice, since it's already been serviced. If it were mine, I'd leave it as is (minus thread and with a new strap).

If it's already properly cleaned and lubricated you could use it on a daily basis without wearing out movement components.
watch the time...
