I just picked this tuning fork up because it was very reasonable and I simply didn't have a hummer in the collection.
However even prior to buying this particular watch, I have found it difficult to identify the Reference for this one. Looking through the archives this case shape has been identified as a Ref 3402 in the past which it is not. That case (the 3402) is much more rounded at the lugs whereas this case more reflects the "sharp" lug profile of say a Yacht Club.
To me it more resembles a Ref 3601 but the catalogue from 1972 shows this as a Cal 160 (day/date). So I am a little confused and wonder if I am missing a Reference for this case/movement configuration or IWC was known to perhaps case up the movement/dial combos into alternate cases - maybe toward the end of the production process. Or someone has done it since?

Thanks Greg - as usual you are on the money!
And you did it without the pic and just the description - well done. I moved the images within photobucket and forgot to repost the correct image link so apologies for that.
Thanks again mate - it is a non-runner at present but has excellent case condition except for a very light polish and a great dial. Just the crystal needs to be sorted and the problem with the non-running. I believe there was a tuning fork "guru" here in Australia but am having trouble tracking him down.

As usual, any clarification greatly appreciated.

The 34xx series had date only and the 36xx day/date. Is it a 3401?

All the best on this Australia Day weekend.
