When pictures of the new Ingenieurs appeared prior to SIHH, there seemed to be a lot of interest in the brown dial ceramic and the 40mm models.
It seems that in the reports from attendees following SIHH, interest may have shifted somewhat. I haven't heard much about the ceramic Ingenieurs or seen much of them in pictures, and the 40mm seems to be "missing in action" too.
To those who attended SIHH, did seeing the watches "in the metal" change your opinion of the new models in any way? I'd love to hear your thoughts on what you expected versus what you actually saw.
Hi Dick - good question. My opinion didn't really change as a result of seeing the watches. I'm not a big fan of ceramic and carbon so those models didn't excite me before the show. I will say that the dial of the carbon Inge has a truly incredible depth to it but overall that watch isn't on my list.
For me, the highlights were the silver Silberpfeil and the ardoise Racer. I think both are very attractive. The big surprise for me is how well both fit even a small wrist. They are large to be sure but somehow don't look overpowering, in my opinion at least.
During the "touch and feel" session, I was disappointed in the legibility of the Silberpfeil. The low contrast between the dial and hands made it difficult for me to read. However, on Friday I had a chance to see it again in very different lighting and am now convinced that the contrast is fine and that the dim lighting in the presentation room was the problem the first time.

Hello Dick
To be honest: No. Of course the watches look different when you have it in your own hands or on your wrist (i.e. the Silberpfeil case is really different from what you can guess when you look at the pictures), but this time, the "touch & feel" session was over for me within few minutes. Nothing really created the "want-to-have" effect I had in other years before.

There is no substitute for seeing the watches for yourself, preferably in conditions that are about the same as at home, in the office or outside. But wrist shots are the next best. To start with, all those very expensive, out of range watches are impressive, but not necessarily interesting or beautiful. I saw enough wrist shots of the 40 mm Automatic to put it on my list, certainly the black dial version. I didn't see or read much about the ceramic Automatics though: that surprised me too, as they seem quite nice. The case of the carbon fibre watch being rather soft makes it not too interesting for me. The Silberpfeils and other chrono's are a bit too massive for me, but they are nice. Seeing them for yourself should be necessary to decide which version to choose, though. The dual date: nice, but I don't travel to the East or the West that often, only to my Mekka in the South that is in the same timezone: Switzerland. Interesting question, I hope more SIHH-visitors will comment on this.
Kind regards, Paul

Hello Dick,
For the most part I felt the same about all the watches I had previously seen in pictures after seeing them in person, with one exception: the 2 carbon ones. I did not like these by looking at the pictures, but they turned out to be very cool in the flesh, light, wear perfectly and of course have a solid movement. This is probably the only watch I misjudged and my opinion changed after seeing it.
Seeing them in the flesh just made me like them more :)

Good question Dick. For me, several opinions changed, and/or conclusions were reached...
I liked the 40mm Ingenieur when I first saw it last year in pics, but didn't jump at it. In the metal, it is a well made, compact, piece with the bracelet not overwhelming the watch. I liked it much more in the metal...
I prefer the black dial given that it makes the dial less empty. The silver dials versions are beautiful too.
I really liked the Dual-Time when I saw it on Monday during lunch in Schaffhausen. In the metal - I was already completely sold. This one is a must-have...
The Black Ceramic AMG I did not like in the pics. In the display case outside the Palexpo booth, I was incredibly impressed with how well made the case and dial and markers were.
Unfortunately, in the metal on the wrist, I found the dial too empty. Still, my mind could still change with this piece, which I have a lot of healthy respect for.
In the pics I found the Digital Ingenieur rather gimmicky, and one I sighted a particular blogger's wrist-shot of it (which on hindsight was due to overexposed flash lighting) I disliked it.
In the metal, I think this piece is sensational, and is very high on my list... to me while not fitting within the traditional 'Ingenieur theme', it is a technological 'design' endeavor that to me IWC is boldly over-laying the Ingenieur with as a newly-evolved characteristic.

Of course I didn't see all presented models before SIHH. For 40 mm. I would say the impression is the same - perfect piece, very nice made. I'm slightly dissapointed by ceramic, espetially the brown one, but I had the same last year with Miramar. I don't like so much this glossy bezel. And ceramic is perfect. At photos it looks worse I would say. The best from "entry level" for me Dual-time definitely, this is a watch from my wish-list. From High-class new constant force tourbillon is increadible. Sorry to say it, but I like it more than Sidereal))
