I had the good fortune to put away some time to head off to Schaffhausen on the Monday of the SIHH week, with a couple of forummers. Dr. David Seyffer was kind enough to guide me through the museum, including the special exhibition showcasing special 'projects' of some of IWC's watchmakers. Michael had posted information on this earlier here: http://www.iwc.com/forum/en/discussion/59628/
Here are some pics...
and a piece by Markus Buhler, an IWC Watchmaker well known among collectors
this award-winning creation has the little ship changing direction at every 6 o'clock...
The heritage of the Yacht Club ref 811 struck me:
and I was again fortunate enough to be joined by Raphael Frauenfelder, a young watchmaker began his early days as an apprentice under Technical Director Stefan Innen's team. This skeletonized calibre 9720 was put in a case procured/made by him (not any of IWC's traditional case moulds). I am not one for skeletonized dials, but the simplicity of this piece appealed to me greatly...
We adjourned to lunch together with Dr. David Seyffer and Oliver Siegel our Community Manager, where Raphael brought a 'special timepiece' he had promised me earlier...a ref 5503 Taschenuhr Lépine Calendar, Calibre 9721 which was his final project as an apprentice to achieve qualification as a watch-maker.
My thanks to David, Oliver and Raphael for their kind hospitality, and great education. It was and remains a great privilege to be allowed an insight like this.

I wondered that this did not come up after your group visited the museum :o) Thank you very much !
Exactly this "sub-show", ending sometime spring is the reason why I want to speed up my visit in the museum. So far I am not decided when precisely but definitely during February or March I want to be there. Right now I looking for some fellows from my surroundings to join and when we set at least something I plan to post also here so may be others can join as well for a little (or bigger :o) Schaffhausen GTG :o)

A great thank you for sharing your tour with us, Shing! Due to one of my hobbies, I am really addicted of the marine chronometer based on the 9720 PW movement. A real masterpiece! Though I know that is unique and IWC is not a navy chrono brand it would suit best to my marine chronometers. :)

Thank you so much for bringing us this wonderful tour. You are the perfect host with a eye for the kind of detail we Forumers appreciate.
A question....Do you remember what model watch young Raphael was wearing ? It looks to be possibly a white dial Pilot Chrono variation.
Thanks again Shing,
Andy
