Vishal Wrote:Thanks Giovanni for the post of our GTG. Let me tell you I was equally looking forward to meeting you ! Even after the long almost eleven hour flight to Brussels the fatigue which normally takes me over was absent, cause the excitement of meeting a fellow collector as you know over shadows everything else. And there I was at Liege Guillemins train station almost freezing waiting for you... I really appreciate the effort you put in driving all the way after a busy day at work. The Hoegaarden never tasted better....
Vishal.
Hi Vishal, You can beat Giovanni's "speed photo" by taking a picture at V1. :-) With some luck the Civil Aviation Authority will not see it and you will be able to keep your ATPL.

The UK Greg Wrote:211 kph and taking photos whilst driving. Not impressed one bit. Congratulations on breaking several UK driving laws which no doubt are common to other countries. Driving without due care and attention, use of hand held phones dictating and other recording devices whilst driving. When do you take your driving test? You'd fail in the UK.
Sadly, this forum is a long way from the quality of imput it was in the early days. Nowadays its full of travel logs ( if that's the right expression ) with the ocassional picture of a watch thrown in for good measure. Those of you who were early subscribers and perhaps even now are still regular visitors, being IWC addicts , will know what I mean. As a collector of ONLY IWC , I would be happy to see more imput by the "technicians" of the industry, i.e more detail about the watches, rather than aerial shots from an aeroplane.

@ Ivan
With all due respect, last time I looked, there are separate categories for vintage watches, and movements and technical details. No one is stopping anyone from posting technical details about the watches. Unfortunately, I am not as educated in the details of IWC movements as you or Tony or Mark or Adrian or Cellar. That's why most of my posts end up in the Community section. And I enjoy the travelogues, especially Nad's contribution. I guess my point is that there is room for all kinds of input. Anyone seeking serious watch details can search Cellar's posts and be entertained for hours.

I agree. This forum has changed dramatically from the early days and I often feel a stranger here. This change may have driven away many of the early IWC members, who may not identify with the current trends. I suspect many are still lurking in the background, as this IWC bug is not easily shed. :-) I wonder what we, the oldtimers, can do to bring them back to participate actively not only in the vintage and the technical rooms, but also (why not?) occasionally in the social rooms of this forum.

Gents, just back from a weeks diving out in the ABC's and almost a weeks radio silence (with no WiFI at the lodging) so only catching up on the forum now back home.
Real sorry to have missed this mini GTG (only about 115km from my place) as I would have loved to have been there - for the Watches, the comrade and the beer!
Tonny's all blue for having missed it too! Now I need to see if I missed something "blue" as regards Tonny new ?????
To me, the forum is as much about people as it is watches. Certainly the watches are what brought everyone together but the forum is, by its very nature, a social experience. I enjoy some of the technical posts but if that's all the forum was, I would certainly spend much less time here, as would, I think, many others. Thanks again to Giovanni and Vishal for sharing their fun evening.
