Thanks again to Giovanni and Vishal for sharing their fun evening.
David, I agree with you on this!
For me this forum is simply about Passion. Passion for IWC, its history, its pocket, vintage and contemporary watches. But as much as the aforementioned it is also about enjoying to share the Passion with the people in this forum. This forum brings people together from all around the world, virtually and in real life, creates friendship among them and in some cases even more than that. As always in life, there are some who are more interested in the history part, others who are more interested in the technology part and again others who are more interested in the people part. Whatever it is, all of them are passionate about IWC. I am not as educated in the technical or history part as others, but I enjoy to read the technical or history posts, and to learn from those - and I can only encourage the experts in those fields to post more. However, I am also enjoying immensely reading the posts which cover the people part. And if this forum enables that people, who haven't met before, travel long distances to meet each other, spend evenings together, and simply enjoy themselves by talking about their Passion for IWC, with all respect, I can't accept this is called low quality.

Very well said Giovanni - I would only like to add that I really think there is room for everyone in this forum, no matter what aspect of IWC you care most for or are most interested in. New watches, vintage watches, wrist watches, pocket watches, the technology of the calibres, the design of them, the materials used, the functionality, the sizes, the history, their significance, their importance in navigation in the air or below the surface, the way they feel, the sizes, the heritage, the cost, the different families, the value or simply they way they look - we can all share, teach, learn, express ourselves or just enjoy this forum - I know I do:-)

I don't mind driving a few hundred km for a meeting either so keep me posted as well! Brussels is only 2.5 hours by car from my place.

Nice to see GTGs sprouting ip in different pockets of the world. To me, that is the organic, very natural outcome of positive engagement facilitated through this forum. events are of course a privilege to attend.

This change may have driven away many of the early IWC members, who may not identify with the current trends. I suspect many are still lurking in the background, as this IWC bug is not easily shed. :-) I wonder what we, the oldtimers, can do to bring them back to participate actively not only in the vintage and the technical rooms, but also (why not?) occasionally in the social rooms of this forum.
Well, some of the former german forum members gathered in a club that is organizing events for them on a regular basis, even with very famous IWC representatives joining as well. The content of the discussions is more like it used to be in the early days. I think to get organized is the best way to keep the long term friendships and continue conversations as they used to be.

Shing, I agree. Still, there is something "official" in the air if GTGs are organized using this IWC forum, and IWC might not like this. So either you do this privately (like in our club), ask IWC for an approval or you wait for IWC to do this through this forum.

I really am not sure what u are talking about David - three distinct ways as u wrote to go about organizing a GTG ? LOL - man, if that were true GTGs are becoming way too formal, darn it - are we in danger of becoming a bureaucracy ?
I had four GTGs in the last 10 days, don't think there is any pressure on me to ask for permission, or report, each and every single one of them - and to whom if I may ask ?
Really David, I don't think there's a need to demonize the brand and the people running it in this forum which by the way is hosted, paid, and sanctioned by the brand.
for me GTGs are a simple thing - they can be ad hoc, or long in the planning. could some be left out, or could some not make it ? sure. I don't personally keep tabs on squabbles or special agenda-ed persons that may get themselves 'written off'. I will shake the hand of any forummer who approaches me - in the Palexpo during the SIHH week too - and I see no need for anyone to scutter off. If they did, then it's stuff in their head, not mine.
and I don't think there are any GTGs 'organized through this forum', although I am certain I have seen a few 'ok - will be in XXX city, so do buzz me if anyone is keen on a GTG'. I don't think that elevates it to a 'IWC Forum Sanctioned GTG'.

@Shing You are absolutely right about the nature of GTG's. the Forum is a natural starting point for establishing interest in IWC watches. From there we are free to do whatever we want except to the extent that IWC sponsors an event. I am not sure what David is referring to in his post.

Time is something invented by the Swiss to help sell more watches
