Hi Guys,
For the last few months my IWC Mission Earth (IW323604) has been losing about 3 secs p/day and I found that on occasion it had also strangely stopped on the winder (set at 850TPD bi-directional).So I figured I should take it into the service centre in Sydney this week to get it regulated and checked out generally.
Today I recieved the bad news that the technician found a fair amount of rust on the movement when the case was opened...Naturally I was very dissapointed as I dont shower, swim, sauna, cook or do anything other than wear it to the office and wash it in cold water with a soft toothbrush once a month. Its never been hit, scratched or damaged in any way shape or form and the crown is never unscrewed or loosened other than when I have to set it or do a date change at month end (after which I take great care to ensure its fully screwed back in and aligned exactly to where the stop point is). Although its just over 3 years old, it looks brand spanking new....and yes I do baby it far too much you could say.
Anyways, it's being shipped to Switzerland now as the repair cant be done locally and ill get an update in 4 weeks.I just cant believe this has happened and that the crown seal has failed.
Anyone ever had a similar experience?
As this may potentially be a very costly repair, does insurance cover this type of thing?
While I have no reason to doubt what you say, please keep in mind that we here can't verify what occurred. Rust doesn't spontaneously occur, which means that for some reason moisture must have got into the movement; it's not just a crown issue. It is for that reason that individual repair issues aren't forum topics.
I'm sure that it'll be repaired fully and hopefully promptly. On insurance, that depends on individual policies, and we can't opine as to yours.

Back luck about your watch. Has there been any moisture collecting inside the crystal when you oscillate between an air condition environment and hot outside ambient temperature? If your getting condensation build-up,then it's most likely that the crown seal has failed. And your right about the the Sydney IWC service centre, they offer excellent customer service.

Sorry to hear about your watch, but never fear, it is in good hands, I have had nothing but great service from the Sydney service center, your watch should come back like new with little fuss. Looking forward to some pics and an update when you get it back.

I must say the service centre team have been very helpful to date and I am confident they will do a great job in addressing the issues.

No moisture or signs of anything other than what I thought was just the need for a simple regulation. Anyways It's in good hands now...
Will update when its back :-)
Kenneth.
