But this taste has a disadvantage and needs lots of patience, because only three vintage models fulfill this requirement: NO date.
Ref. 666, 866 and 5215.
But now I am very lucky, because I could find my second one, a 666 A. And it is really in excellent shape. I would state it as nearly NOS.
Some details support my opinion about nearly NOS:
- Nothing indicates a case overhaul => Edges are not rounded.
- Authentic glass => Glass is uniformly rounded, not with the edges, such as a new glass according to the service.
- The old luminous mass.
- Typical 666 spring bars => These spring bars are ONLY suitable for watches with fully pierced lugs.
A very rare fitting box was available too.
Because I am absolutely convinced to the technical features of these old INGENIEUR watches, I did not hesitate to stick it on really strong magnets :-)
I would never do this with modern INGENIEURs.
The 1966 catalog shows a watch with an identical dial.
Of course, this new acquisition is worth a very good wine :-)

Congratulations on an exceptional additition to your remarkable collection. I Couldn't agree more, the Ref 666A (no date) is IMHO the perfectest Ingenieur. The interesting thing about this model is that the dial is not made of soft iron. The Faraday cage is completed by a soft iron disk between the movement and the dial. The dials have longer feet to account for the loger distance so they can be securely attached to the movement. I am still looking for the Ref 866A.

Thanks Antonio,
a dial "not made of soft iron". What a remarkable information.
Yes, I am hunting for a 866A as well :-)
The ricecorn bracelet, a good hint. I will try it with my 666.

Every addition to your collection probably brings happiness and joy - but this one MUST bring great happiness too! What a great addition and in great shape too.
Happy for you and thanks for sharing the watch and the great photos - tonight I will take a second look on the big screen (PC) to enjoy even more :-)

Michael Friedberg Wrote:Great watch, equally great wine. Congratulations.
And thanks, water clock, for the interesting factoid about the soft iron encapsulation. Is it true for all 666's without date?
Hi Michael I got this information directly from Schaffhausen a couple of years ago, I can't recall from whom. I was attempting to determine the authenticity of a Ref 666A (no date) dial because it was not attracted by a magnet and got that information. I assumed it applied to all Ref 666A.

Heiko, Another great post with excellent photography. Indeed few of the vintage Ingenieurs were manufactured without date. Another example among those you mention, is the Ref. 766, the golden Ingenieur with steel case back. Kind regards, Adrian, (alwaysiwc).

Congratulations for this great addition.
I agree with you. The Ingenieur 666 with no date is amazing.
But, IMHO, the 866 looks better with date.
Thanks for sharing.
