alwaysiwc Wrote:Being my watch friend, Hajo is one of the most driven IWC collectors that I know. During the last years he built up an important and large collection, comprising vintage IWC pocket- and wrist watches but also many watches from the current collection. Further he is probably the only one who made more than one child familiar and enthousiastic about IWC watches. His son, who is a pilot, wears an IWC pilot watch. Now his lovely daughter got her own IWC. And there is more. Hajo served in the German Navy several decades ago. He is probably the only member of this Forum who has actually seen the post war Pocket Navigation Watches (B-Uhren) in duty on the German Marine vessels. And he was in close contact with the famous "Kampfschwimmer" and "Minentaucher" of the German Navy : the people that set the standard for the development and use of the Ocean Bund military divers watches during the 1980's and later. Listening to Hajo means that the story around legendary IWC watches becomes alive : as if one is present on the very spot. Hajo is a busy man, but once in a month we see each other on a parking place nearby the Dutch-German border. We both know that our meeting will end by taking a one dollar cup of coffee from the machine used by the hundreds of truckers that pass the border every day. But the start of the meeting is funny and predictable as well.I am waiting in my car at the parking area. I am always there before schedule and Hajo is (nearly) always late. Than I move into his car(much bigger) with a box or a bag. Hajo has too a box or a bag. We both do not know what the other will say or show. It is a surprise. But than it is revealed : a vintage IWC, a remarkable PW, a brochure, an extract of the archives, a never seen IWC box etc. The next issue is about the Forum : who has posted something interestingly, who was right or wrong and why. When we agree and we always agree, we step out of his car to get our coffee.Among us truckers who want to eat fast food and drink soft drinks or coffee. There is not one person who has ever addressed us about what we are talking about. Perfect for us! It is by no means comparable to a "Boutique meeting", we know that. But it is all about and only about IWC.After coffee the ceremony is closed. But only for a while...only for one month at the utmost.Kind regards,Adrian,(alwaysiwc).
watch the time...

I used to think it was clever to confuse comedy with tragedy. Now I wish I could distinguish them. John le Carré
