I recently inherited an IWC Schaffhausen gold watch from my father with the incription "Fabriquée spécialement pour Joseph Marchak", with a serial number No. 480189.
I contacted the House of Marchak to possibly track down possible descendants who would be interested in acquiring this watch. In turn, I was contacted very fast by someone from the company (or so I guess) who claimed that this watch is "(...)a IWC Schaffhausen pocket watch made for the brand Marchak and not for a private person.
The House of Marchak has been known for associating its name to famous name in the watch industry such as IWC, Vacheron Constantin, Patek Philippe, etc....
So there has been quite a lot of these watches around, some more valuable than others; we do have some in our private collection."
I thought I'd just grab a second opinion from avid knowers of the topic ; would this really be the case? Does the sentence that claims that it was made for the founder himself mean actually only that the wathc was made for the House of Marchak? And lastly -- if anyone would have a gues on what a watch like this is actually worth, I would not be ungrateful.
Please write if you need pictures.
