Padj Wrote:For a very long time, I have been in love with the Portugieser. The story of how it came to be, coupled with its simple beauty, has always been special for me. One of the first watches I truly felt a strong emotion for was the 3714, the Portuguese Chronograph; when I finally obtained one I felt like this was the start of something.Last year, when I really splurged on building a collection of nice watches I turned to IWC, because of the 3714. And among the pieces I invited to my home, a Portuguese Perpetual (5032) and Automatic (5001) were early arrivals. Thus my love for this family of watches was cemented, and these 2 joined my Chrono in happiness and harmony.Of course, like everything else in life, one becomes..."familiar" with something, or someone, and maybe that strong feeling fades a little. Maybe that special something, or someone appears a little less attractive, and, less noticed; less paid attention to.Then, BOOM, something new comes into the picture. Something stunning, alluring, gorgeous. It causes one's head to turn. I admit it. It happened to me. The Little Prince Perpetual was that stunner. It was alluring, gorgeous, and more. I invited it in. And lavished attention on it. I sang it praises. I took note of its family for the first time. It seemed like true love. And it is.But things, people, pictures, posts can conspire to redirect one, to force a return to what one loved in the first place. To remind one of the beauty that had not faded, not really. This happened to me, and I thank Dick L. twice over. First for posting some watches he was willing to sell; second for selling one to me.Dick had a beauty of a watch (actually several). But Dick understood that beauty of that magnitude cannot be possessed by one man forever. So, he accepted fate and allowed her to leave him.I cared not how old she was; how used she was; how abused she may have been. I saw her and I loved her from the moment I laid eyes on her. And now she is with me.I don't know for how long; one can never be sure of these things. But for now... Community, let me introduce you to my new companion: Sophia LorenIn all her beauty:Thanks, Dick.
