Greetings to everybody,
I am a newbie to this forum but have been a watch aficionado for quite a while. Recently I became a proud owner of a beautiful IWC Vintage Pilot's watch. Must admit, I fall rather easily for watches that a replicas of vintage designs, so this was just a matter of time for me:)
The question I have is regarding the beautiful movement which is 98300 in my case. I know that original Jones caliber used gold chatons to hold the jewels. Does my caliber have real chatons or are those imitations?

Thank you, Michael,
This is what I wanted to hear. No way this is going to change my attitude to the Manufacture or the caliber. I am a bit of a geek and just wanted to know for sure. I love hand wound movements, especially ones of such a pedigree.

Great watch indeed, congratulations! My motive to buy it a few years ago was about the same as yours, it uses the beauty of the past and combines it with the size and manufacture skills of today. And it really looks fantastic on the wrist.
Kind regards, Paul

Ivan,
Not many of this VC model gets posted, but your pic's emphasize how truly beautiful this piece really is. Love the bezel, style of Arabic numbers, railroad chapter ring, and partnering it up with a St. Ex. strap.
Really shows a nice presence on the wrist. Thanks for sharing a look at this seldom seen Vintage Pilot.

Michael, Paul, Andy,
Thank you fellows, you are very kind. I am new and already feel at home.
This is my only IWC watch at the moment. I am picky and like hand wound watches, or if they are automatic - I don't like it when they have a date :) When you get a chance to try this one on, you HAVE to turn the bezel - it's unbelievably smooth, it almost feels like it has a ball bearing mechanism. Does anybody know if this is so?
Taking pictures of my watches is another weakness of mine :) Love the hands and the lume!
Those are beautiful pictures, Ivan. They seem to illustrate that beautiful piece in better light than most online pictures I've seen. It's good to see some really good pictures of the VC pilot.
I'm a fan of hand-wound watches too and I'm now carefully considering on which to pick up that carries this caliber. In the meantime, I'll just drool over these wonderful pictures.
