THE COLDER DAYS OF OCTOBER DRAW JONI HEDINGER TO THE PICTURESQUE ALPINE VALLEY IN THE CANTON OF GRAUBÜNDEN. FOLLOW ALONG TO EXPLORE BLUE LAKES, SNOW-DRAPED MOUNTAINS, AND GOLDEN LARCHES.

View from Lake Champfer to Silvaplana in Engadine

The days are getting shorter, and the air is becoming cooler. While some escape to the south in search of a lingering taste of summer, my heart pulls me towards the Engadine, a place of extraordinary beauty, especially during this time of year. As autumn temperatures begin to drop, the larches in the high valley slowly transform into a vivid orange, casting a mesmerizing spell over the entire Engadine.

I once again embarked on my annual autumn journey to the Engadine this year, bringing my IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph TOP GUN Edition “Woodland” Ref. IW389106 along with me.

FLEETING GOLDEN AUTUMN

The golden autumn in the Engadine is a rare and enchanting spectacle that must be witnessed at the right moment. Between mid-October and late October, this Swiss alpine region reveals its most captivating side. The larch trees display an array of hues, ranging from warm yellows to deep oranges. The deep blue lakes like Silsersee and St. Moritzersee in the upper Engadine reflect the majestic mountains surrounding them.

The scene is even more enchanting when the mountain peaks are dusted with a gentle layer of white powder. Nature enthusiasts and photographers from all over the world are drawn to this breathtaking landscape, with its blue lakes, larch forests ablaze in orange, and snow-draped mountains.

However, the golden autumn in the Engadine is fleeting, and this vibrant display of nature’s colors last only a few weeks before winter's arrival.

Becoming intimately acquainted with the landscapes over time has allowed me to uncover and appreciate the small, exquisite details even more.

Starting Point St. Moritz

The Engadine, with its picturesque lakes, dense forests, and grand mountains, is a region that should be personally explored. St. Moritz, the glamorous gateway to your journey, not only exudes luxury and elegance but also boasts an IWC Boutique for watch enthusiasts. From here, you can embark on your Engadine adventure and immerse yourself fully in the golden autumn.

Hike along the shores of Lake Sils or venture into fragrant forests adorned with warm autumnal hues. The majestic mountains of the Engadine offer not only breathtaking views but also a lot of hiking opportunities suitable for adventurers of all levels.

Discovering Beauty in the Details

I’ve been visiting the Engadine in autumn for many years, and each visit continues to captivate me with its natural beauty. Becoming intimately acquainted with the landscapes over time has allowed me to uncover and appreciate the small, exquisite details even more.

During my stay this year, the weather didn’t always cooperate. Yet, it was on these overcast days that the region revealed its hidden treasures. Larch trees adorned their needles with droplets of water, which glistened in the diffused light. This interaction between nature and weather gave the landscape a mystical aura that captivated me.

Despite the years I have spent here, I continue to find new facets of the Engadine that inspire me. The small details, be it the drops on the plants or the familiar paths, make every visit to the Engadine a unique and unforgettable experience.
