On July 14th, 1939, the Latécoère 521 took to the skies for the first non-stop crossing of the North Atlantic by seaplane or “flying boat”: 31.62 meters long, 9.01 meters high and a wingspan of 49.31 meters, the Latécoère 521 was an aviation engineering marvel, something that Antoine Saint Exupéry was well aware of. The author and pilot was a passenger on Latécoère 521’s maiden voyage.
IWC celebrates Saint Exupéry’s journey aboard the aircraft with the Pilot’s Watch Timezoner Chronograph Edition “80 Years Flight to New York”, which features design nods to this exciting era and the adventure of flight.
In addition, IWC and the Antoine de Saint Exupéry Youth Foundation have published a new coffee table book commemorating the trip and Saint Exupéry’s time in New York City where he wrote his famous work “The Little Prince”. Preview “80 Years Flight to New York” below.
