The name says it all. No other mechanical watch epitomizes function, clientele and zeitgeist as well as the IWC Ingenieur. Developed in the 1950s for professionals who were increasingly exposed to magnetic fields – doctors, technicians, pilots, chemists, physicists, and, of course, engineers – the Ingenieur was IWC’s first fully anti-magnetic watch for civilian use. Several design icons and collectors’ favorites emerged from this technical milestone, such as the Ingenieur Ref. 666 from 1955, or Gérald Genta’s masterpiece, the Ingenieur SL Ref. 1832 from 1976.
