Please note that there are local deviations regarding induction procedure. The following description applies specifically to the headquarters in Schaffhausen.
Induction period
Experiences and impressions during the first days and weeks of work have a significant impact on future recruitment to new positions and on the employer. That’s why IWC makes it as easy and enjoyable as possible for new employees starting at the company. We value a structured induction with a personalized orientation plan, welcome day, welcome coffee with the HR Department, a tour around the manufacture and a watchmaking course. Our practiced, open culture that encourages feedback and discussion makes it easier for new employees to integrate into the company and into the team.
Welcome Coffee
In the first weeks after starting, the Human Resources department will invite you to a welcome coffee. This is an opportunity for us to receive feedback from you on our onboarding process. We will also introduce you to your personal contact person in HR so that you know who to contact.
Welcome day & tour of the manufacture
The welcome events for new employees are an essential part of the induction process. We will invite you to a welcome day so that you get to know our company. This will give you an insight into the different departments and an overview of IWC’s people and products. The day will end with a tour of the manufacture and a walk around the IWC Museum. A presentation of our current watch collection is a particular highlight.
Watchmaking course
Don a watchmaker’s coat for the day and get your loupe at the ready. In our watchmaking course, you will get an exciting insight into the traditional watchmaking craft, which we, at IWC, combine with modern production methods and technologies. You will be able to put your dexterity and patience to the test by putting together a watch.
Please note that there are local deviations regarding personal development. The following description applies specifically to the headquarters in Schaffhausen.
A three-way approach to development
We are confident that you can never stop learning. At IWC we, therefore, cultivate a culture of learning and support our employees in continuing their education. We believe that personal development is not just the key to personal success, but that it also drives our company has a whole.
For us, personal development is a three-way relationship between employees, managers and the company.
- Employees take on a proactive role in their development within IWC.
- Our management teams act as key contacts and supporters in the PMP process and in day to day collaboration.
- The company creates the ideal conditions for the further development of employees.
Performance Management Process (PMP)
Employee development is closely connected to the yearly Performance Management Process (PMP). This is where our employees discuss their individual developmental trajectory with their manager and record their personal goals.
The concrete measures usually follow the 70-20-10 principle:
70 percent comes from workplace experiences.
20 percent of the learning objectives are achieved through self-guided learning modules.
10 percent of the knowledge is taught through training or courses.
The further education measures are based on the company’s functions and needs. For external training and self-study, the transfer of knowledge into practice is crucial for ensuring long-lasting and successful learning.
IWC Academy
At the IWC Academy, we offer a comprehensive range of further education and training for our employees. It includes, among others:
- Technical training
- Leadership training, leadership conferences, personal coaching for senior managers
- Project management
- Soft skills
- Language courses

- Networking events for internal networking.
In addition to classroom training, the IWC Academy also offers e-learning modules that employees can access at any time and from anywhere. In some cases, in-service training is also supported as part of a degree program or MBA.
