Portugieser Perpetual Calendar Tourbillon
Limited to 50 pieces, the Portugieser Perpetual Calendar Tourbillon features a 45-millimetre case crafted from platinum, a rare and pure precious metal with a distinctive silvery-white sheen. The platinum case is paired with a purple dial finished with a sunray pattern. The applied Arabic numerals and hands are rhodium-plated. Comprising 82 parts and weighing only 0.635 grams, the flying minute tourbillon is positioned at 12 o’clock. The balance wheel and escapement are housed in a small cage that rotates around its own axis once every minute, contributing to the watch’s precise rate.
Developed by the legendary watchmaker Kurt Klaus in the 1980s, the perpetual calendar is mechanically programmed to account for the varying lengths of the months and automatically adds a leap day at the end of February every four years. All displays are synchronized and can be advanced simply by turning the crown. The moon phase display will deviate by only one day after 577.5 years. Both complications are driven by the IWC-manufactured 51950 calibre, featuring a Pellaton winding system and a power reserve of seven days (168 hours). The movement, with its gold-plated oscillating mass, can be admired through the sapphire glass case back. The watch is fitted with a hand-colored black alligator leather strap crafted by the Italian leather artisans at Santoni.
