Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ Team
The Pilot's Watch Chronograph 41 Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ Team is the fourth in a series of team watches that IWC Schaffhausen has created as the "Official Engineering Partner" of the team. Featuring a 41-millimeter case crafted from lightweight and durable titanium, this sporty chronograph is equally at home in the paddock and on the wrist. With its high strength-to-density ratio, titanium is often used in motorsport for creating components for high-performance engines, such as valves.
The highlight of this edition is its eye-catching dial in a deep, saturated purple color. The color is a tribute to the city of Singapore and its national flower, an orchid called the Vanda Miss Joaquim. Singapore is home to the first night race in Formula One™, a contest widely considered one of the most punishing tests of the season. As with previous team watches, the dial is accented with details in the team's signature green color. The distinctive Petronas green shade marks the numerals and indices and appears as a luminescent coating on the hands, cutting a compelling contrast against the dial's rich purple.
The design is complemented by a purple rubber strap, which, thanks to the integrated EasX-CHANGE® system, can be swapped for another strap at the touch of a button without any tools. At work inside the case is the IWC-manufactured 69385 caliber, a mechanical chronograph built on a classical column-wheel architecture and engineered with a focus on precision, reliability and robustness. The stop minutes are indicated at 12 o'clock via IWC's hallmark vertical subdial layout, making elapsed-time readings effortless and intuitive.
This dial configuration has been a signature feature of IWC's Pilot's Chronographs for more than four decades. The combined day-date display at 3 o'clock adds a layer of everyday practicality. A bidirectional pawl winding system provides a 46-hour power reserve. Finished with Geneva stripes and circular graining, the movement can be viewed through the transparent sapphire-glass case back.
