OUR MISSION FOR ETHICAL SOURCING
OUR MISSION FOR ETHICAL SOURCING
We’re particular when it comes to sourcing, and we’re transparent about it. Because we understand that the choices we make – what we source, from where and from whom - have an impact. From responsible material sourcing and respecting human rights to supporting local communities and ensuring habitat preservation and animal welfare – we want to ensure that the watch you’re wearing has minimal impact on society and the environment. We’re keen to share our watches’ story from their source to the boutique.
WHERE DO OUR STRAPS COME FROM?
WHERE DO OUR STRAPS COME FROM?
All IWC straps made of traceable calf leather are sourced in Switzerland, where the animal welfare standard is one of the highest in the world. IWC‘s supplier of calfskins, Centravo, is a leading Swiss company specialised in the responsible processing of animal products. The calfskin we source is a by-product of farming and agriculture industries. Each calf has a unique ID number collected and stored in a central European database, which traces it back to the exact farm. All suppliers of animal-based materials must adhere to the Responsible Luxury Initiatives Animal Sourcing Principles based on “five freedoms” aiming to protect animals from cruelty and discomfort.
WHY IT’S IMPORTANT?
WHY IT’S IMPORTANT?
Customers have a right to know, and want to understand, how and where products are produced, and what the social and environmental impacts are. Openly communicating where we source our materials, how we pick our suppliers and how we hold them accountable are non-negotiable for us - transparency is one of our guiding principles. With meticulous engineering, and robust and traceable materials, our timepieces are built to last. Because our purpose is to engineer watches beyond time – and that includes our responsibility to protect the planet for generations to come.
